PRIMM, Nev. — The Southern Nevada Off Road Enthusiasts head into their 48th season, this Thursday through Sunday, with the running of the King Shocks Battle at Primm.
With a field of almost 175 entries, the Battle at Primm kicks off a year filled with promise, along with numerous new faces and a president who is taking over the reins for the second time.
“I am really excited about the 2017 season,” said SNORE President John Pellissier, who headed SNORE in 2006-2007 and was vice president from 2012-2014. “We have several new people in key positions and I really feel good about the season!
“I actually felt that it was my calling to be president of SNORE again this year.”
A competitor who has several class championships in the past, Pellissier is giving up the competition to guide SNORE in a six-race series that is again sponsored by Patrick’s Signs, which is hooking up with SNORE for the second consecutive year and will co-sponsor the season with McKenzie’s.
In fact, it was the teamwork at SNORE that spurred Pellissier to take on such a monumental task.
“There is no question that promoting an off-road series is no easy task,” said Pellissier. “However, I felt that SNORE is in good hands primarily because of the dedication of its leadership. I am not in this by myself and feel very good knowing that we have an excellent team.”
Among the key people playing big roles in SNORE’s 2017 season is new vice president, CJ Hutchins, a renowned off road champion who has in recent years secured major sponsorships for his Class 1 Kreger and has put that aside to help lead SNORE. “C.J. has extensive experience and knowledge in off-road racing,” Pellissier said. “We’re very lucky to have him, especially considering his stature in the sport.”
Also, new sergeant at arms/volunteer coordinator, Angie Mitchell will be handling all of the recruiting of volunteer duties.
“Angie and her husband KJ, love the sport of off-road racing,” Pellissier said. “They help with other off-road bodies. They have dirt in their veins for sure and they’re perfect for SNORE. They already have 14-15 people lined up for SNORE’s next event in Ridgecrest, Calif., while they’re working the Primm race! Not having to worry about the volunteers is a big deal and we definitely appreciate the Mitchells” says Pellissier.
Pellissier said, “New Race Director John Koeth, is yet another key member of SNORE’s efforts in 2017.
“John has many years of experience in off-road racing,” Pellissier added, “He is currently partnering in a Trick Truck class in Best in the Desert and we’re elated to have him on our team.”
Koeth’s daughter is onboard as the new Secretary of SNORE filling the big shoes of Miranda Bruner, who continues to be on the board of directors.
“Sarah is already doing a great job and a fast learner to the position I’m happy to have in the group!” says Pellissier.
‘The continually dedicated Bruner, a Southern Nevada insurance executive, brings special expertise to the table for SNORE and is instrumental in the transition of Secretarial duties to Sarah.” Pellissier said. “Our first race of the year would not have happened were it not for Miranda. She’s a very good person and her expertise with insurance is extremely vital, especially in the sport of off-road racing.”
Another new key member of the SNORE team is Keith Blatt, who is the new lead timing and scoring person. Along with the help of BITD’s staff, Dave Brune, ‘Keith will be just fine on the clock, and the integrity of our results will be the best they’ve ever been” ensured Pellissier.
Longtime SNORE member and racer, Lynn Dickton continues as treasurer moving into this year as well.
“There is no worry about where the money is going with Lynn in control. She’s always been a great part of SNORE’s success throughout the years.” comments Pellissier.
Pellissier’s long-time friend KJ Howe, the former race director of the legendary Mint 400, praises SNORE for its many years in the sport. He also said SNORE is in good hands with Pellissier.
“John is a great friend a fellow wine maker,” Howe said. “He is also an accomplished off-road racer and an outstanding leader. His capabilities and reputation in the off-road community will be an asset as he returns to the leadership position in SNORE that he knows so well.
In each case, the key members of SNORE represent invaluable experience and dedication, according to Pellissier.
“The organization continues to be in good hands.”
